Skills of A Business Coach Series
Interpersonal Skill 3 - Giving & Receiving Feedback

People are not normally accustomed to giving direct feedback whether it be positive or negative.  However, most people in the work place talk about not receiving sufficient feedback and would appreciate receiving more.  Why is this?  Usually because most people are also not good at receiving feedback either.  A good coach can overcome this by showing willingness to take feedback, and to give feedback in a balanced un-emotional manner.  Good ways to invite feedback are to use phrases such as ‘am I giving you enough support?’ or ‘do you need some more time to reflect on your own solution?’ or ‘would it have been better if I had made a suggestion then?’
